Two Sentenced in Local Murder Cases
Sentences were handed down yesterday in a pair of area murder cases.
 
In Preston County, 36-year old James DeGasperin was sentenced to three 30-year terms for killing his girlfriend, her son, and her unborn child. DeGasperin was also sentenced to two terms of 1-5 years for concealing the bodies. He’s eligible for parole after 32 years. 
 
In Harrison County, the confessed gunman in a Salem murder case was sentenced. 19-year old Blair Templeman, Jr. was sentenced to life in prison for killing 42-year old William Griffith last December. Templeman will be eligible for parole in 15 years. 
Medical Professionals Sentenced on Rx Drug Counts
A former ER doctor at Stonewall Jackson Hospital has been sentenced to two years of probation for federal drug violations. 40-year old Michael Gregory of Weston was involved in a conspiracy to illegally obtain hydrocodone. He then prescribed the medicine for patients that he hadn’t personally examined.
 
Another medical professional – 53-year old Harold Marks – was sentenced to five years of probation for using a prescription for hydrocodone on several occasions. Marks is a contract nurse. 
 
 
Lewis County Accidents
Part of I-79 was shut down after an accident in Lewis County yesterday. It happened near mile marker 86. A trucked flipped in the median, sending the driver to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and shutting down one lane of traffic in each direction.
 
A Lewis County man was killed in a motorcycle accident Tuesday evening. 39-year old David Eugene Keller lost control of his bike while riding on Route 19 around 5pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
GST Lands NOAA Contract
A Fairmont business has landed a $200 million national contract to archive NOAA satellite weather data. Global Science and Techology has been involved in the project since 2000. They’ll maintain a database of millions of archived files for use by researchers and forecasters. 
Rockefeller Addresses Obama's Chances; Calls for Coal-focused Energy Policy
Senator Jay Rockefeller thinks Barack Obama can win West Virginia. He was a guest on Talkline yesterday and said he thinks the party will be drawn together in a race against John McCain.
 
In his speech to the delegates, Rockefeller said that America’s national security has been weakened by “eight years of ineffective leadership.” He called for strengthening defense through strategic alliances and for an energy policy focusing on alternative fuels and clean coal.
